The STOPDEBRIS intends to establish clear and comprehensive project guidelines in order to develop more effective and convincing debris flow mitigation structures for solid material retention, prone to greater acceptance by public authorities with responsibility in territory planning and management.
The STOPDEBRIS main objectives are:
- Develop and test new structural mitigation solutions for debris flow, based on physical model experiments
- Develop practical design guidelines for slit dams
- Promote more effective structural debris flow mitigation
It is intended that these structures should allow the increase of safety for awareness populations that are often affected by debris flows. In fact, whenever properly designed and employed, slit dams shall promote the retention of larger blocks with greater destructive capability.
